Ben arrived in Alabama on October 1st. We FINALLY heard from him after 2 weeks. I think the mail takes awhile. His letters arrived yesterday. His mission President picked him up from the airport. President Tate sent a letter to Mom & Dad saying that Ben arrived safely with this picture attached. Doesn't Ben look good? When they arrived at the mission home he got assigned a companion and an area and immediately started tracking. He got assigned to the Gadsden area. He described the area as very poor. He said it reminds him of downtown Salt Lake without all the big buildings. He said that football there is like their religion. The people sleep, drink and live football. He found out the average baptisms for a 2 year mission is only 2. He said he has a goal of 20. Everyone seems to be baptist and thinks the elders are Jahovah's Witnesses. They knocked on 47 doors and only 6 people let them in. He said that's what he gets for praying for a hard mission! :) They have been teaching a woman who is going through a divorce and wants to get baptised. He said she'll probably get baptised in the next couple of weeks. He said there is also a really nice family in the ward who doesn't have very much but they always feed the missionaries. They had a BBQ for them. He misses his family and looks at our pictures everynight. He said there is a woman in his ward that reminds him of Mom. His P-day is on Wednesday and he can only open/read his mail and write letters on Wednesdays. He can email on these days so if you want to send him over an email I'm sure he'd love it. He sounds in good spirits. I guess they ride bikes during the first half of the week and then they have a car for the second half. Kind of interesting... Overall Ben sounds great and is loving his mission. Today is Wednesday and we are anxiously awaiting a reply to our emails. We'll update as soon as we hear anything.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT Ben's MISSION PRES IS President Tate!!!! The Bradford's had dinner with his family over Thanksgiving 2 years ago in Maryland!! Such a small world!! Good to know Ben will be in great hands!!
